Chair of the Board of Trustees

We’re looking for a new Chair to join our committed trustees and help shape the future of our youth-led organisation!

Creative Opps act as a bridge between young people and the often-inaccessible creative industries. For 10 years, we have been delivering user-led programmes, designed by and for young people, primarily in London and including mentoring, paid work placements, and training programmes. You can find out more about our work on our website: creativeopps.org

We are a small team, 3 part time staff, 7 trustees and a youth board all based across the UK. We’ve also recently welcomed 50 young people on our membership programme to further democratise our work.

We’re looking for a new Chair or Co-Chairs of Trustees to support our board and work with our leadership team to ensure Creative Opps continues to meet its aims. Applications are accepted until 11:59pm GMT on Saturday 15 March, 2025.

Please note this is an unpaid, voluntary role.

Our trustees meet four times a year to discuss the activities of Creative Opps and make key decisions on behalf of, and in the best interests of, the charity. Trustees have a legal responsibility for the management and administration of a charity -.

What will the role involve?

  • Chairing meetings of the Board of Trustees effectively and efficiently
  • Supporting the board to meet, develop  and complete agreed tasks
  • Contributing towards trustees annual report,
  • Scrutinise and approve annual accounts, agreeing on the annual budget, and assisting with fundraising
  • Reviewing and updating our policies
  • Meeting with CEO an hour per month.
  • Contribute strategic insight
  • Approving funding applications and terms and conditions for grants
  • Joining interview panels,
  • Speaking at events on behalf of Creative Opps.

We currently have two Co-Chairs who share the role between them. Their term ends in 2025 and they are stepping down to ensure Creative Opps is able to support new perspectives in its leadership.

Who are Creative Opps looking for?

We are currently looking for a new Chair of the Board. This role could also be shared with someone else, in which you would act as a co-chair.

We’re looking for people who can commit 8 hours a month to this work (understanding that this need fluctuates) and you can be based anywhere in the UK, as all meetings are remote. You don’t have to have been a trustee before, as the current co-chairs, staff and board can support you to develop and thrive in the role.

We’re looking for people with:

  • An interest in leading a board of volunteers and passion for developing small teams
  • A commitment to the Creative Opps mission, and our youth-led, participatory inclusive and diverse approach
  • Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to think strategically and contribute to organisational development.
  • Experience and/or passion for working with and supporting young people
  • Ideally, you would have understanding/experience of how a charity works, ideally including charity governance, strategic planning, leadership transition and fundraising.

We know this is a voluntary role, so if you do not have direct experience in the above but are interested in upskilling in the above areas, we’re particularly interested in hearing from you. If you believe in what we do and think you could be our new Chair, regardless of how you fit the person spec we’ve put together – please do still apply.

We are continually recruiting trustees for our board. If you are interested in joining the board, but don’t think the Chair role is for you, please do still get in touch.
