Where Stories, Insight & Opportunity Flow.
Welcome to the very first post on Creative Currents – a new chapter in how we share what’s happening across our creative community. If you’ve been with us for a while, you’ll know we’re all about connection, care, and real-world opportunities for creatives navigating the cultural and creative industries. If you’re new here – hello, we’re so glad you found us.
This blog is a space to go deeper. A home for human stories, personal reflections, and practical signposts for creatives at all stages of their journey. We’ll be sharing updates from inside the organisation – whether that’s someone’s first paid creative commission or a big-picture partnership coming together behind the scenes. We want to make space for both the individual wins and the collective growth.
Membership: a new way to stay connected
We’re now in the third month of our membership pilot with support from Power Shift Transformational Governance. The programme is designed to ensure Creative Opps remains truly youth-led—giving the young people we work with a real voice in shaping our strategy and direction.
Since launching, we’ve welcomed 54 young creatives from a wide range of backgrounds, including filmmaking, music, and acting. Members have been actively involved across all areas of the organisation, from marketing and communications to fundraising, finance, creative arts, outreach and partnerships, graphic design, and research and data.
As part of the programme, members have also had the opportunity to run paid learning and development sessions—planning and leading Zoom workshops for their peers. So far, we’ve hosted sessions on PR, short filmmaking, and lyric writing, with two more exciting workshops coming up in the next couple of weeks.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to relaunch the membership programe in June, building on everything we’ve learned so far to offer even more opportunities for young creatives to connect, collaborate, and lead.
Through the blog, we’ll be introducing member spotlights, peer shoutouts, and ways to get involved—from networking events to collaborative projects and skillshares. If you’re looking for a creative community that holds space for you—not just your CV—this could be the place.
A spotlight on mentorship
At the heart of Creative Opps is our flagship mentorship programme – a free, carefully matched programme supporting creatives from underrepresented backgrounds. For us, mentorship isn’t just about advice – it’s about building relationships that affirm, empower and shift what’s possible. Over the years, we’ve seen incredible things come from these pairings: mentees landing their first major job, mentors reigniting their own creativity, and a ripple effect that goes way beyond the programme’s formal end.
On the blog, we’ll be spotlighting some of these stories – the unexpected lessons, the small breakthroughs, and the transformative moments that don’t always make it into a case study. You’ll hear directly from participants past and present, and get a feel for how mentorship really works at Creative Opps.
Partnerships with purpose
We’ve always believed in the power of partnerships rooted in care and purpose, and that’s something we’re continuing to invest in. From working with independent arts organisations to cross-sector collaborations, we’re proud to be shaping projects that open doors and shift narratives.
Over the coming months, we’ll be using the blog to share more about the partnerships we’re building – how they came about, why they matter, and how you can get involved. Whether it’s co-creating with marginalised communities, advocating for structural change, or simply sharing resources – these partnerships are part of what makes Creative Opps feel alive.
So, that’s a little about what to expect from this space. News, yes – but also heart. Reflection. Conversation. And maybe even inspiration.
And if you’d like to be featured – whether you’re a mentor, mentee, member, or collaborator – get in touch. We’d love to hear from you. This blog is here for our community, and your voice is a vital part of it. – email [email protected]
