Meet Our Members: Alex Brown

For Creative Opps member Alex Brown, music is more than melody — it’s a way of shaping atmosphere, emotion, and story. Based in London, Alex works as a composer and sound designer for film and video games, blending his background as a session pianist with a passion for creating music to image. His sound worlds bring characters, narratives, and environments to life, turning the invisible into something deeply felt.

Part 1

Who are you, and how would you describe your creative practice?

My name is Alex Brown, a London-based composer and sound designer for film and video games.

What drew you to this field?

I’ve always been music-focused. I was originally a session pianist, but I later realised my real passion was in making music to image. I started out by creating music for video games, then gradually expanded into composing for film.

What’s something you’re working on right now that excites you?

Right now, I’m building a collection of music for music libraries. I’ve also got a drama/horror short film coming up with a really strong plot — I’m excited to dive into scoring it and experimenting with how sound can heighten the story’s tension and atmosphere.

Who or what is inspiring you lately?

My creative friends, who despite all the challenges of the industry, continue to push forward. Seeing their determination and resilience reminds me why I love being part of this creative field.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out?

Build your network as soon as possible and never undersell yourself. Go to networking events, connect with other creatives, and find a group of people you can work closely with. Those connections can make all the difference in shaping your path.

What does community mean to you in your work or creative life?

Community is everything in this industry. It can be really hard to navigate on your own, especially when you don’t have any connections. Having people around you who share your goals and ambitions helps you grow and reach higher heights than you could alone.

What does it mean to be a Creative Opps Member?

Being a Creative Opps Member has allowed me to connect with creatives from a wide variety of backgrounds. It’s inspiring to hear other people’s journeys, learn from their experiences, and find ways to support each other along the way.
