Marketing and Social Media Assistant – SLATE Hair Academy

ABOUT SLATE HAIR ACADEMY

SLATE Hair Academy is a London-based hair education academy specialising in professional hair cutting, barbering, colour and styling.

You will work closely with Michael Pitsillides, co-founder of SLATE Hair Academy. Pitsillides’ work has appeared in publications such as Vogue, ELLE, Marie Claire, and The Glass Magazine, and he has worked with Gucci, Burberry, Louis Vuitton, and more.

THE ROLE

You will help with the day-to-day running of a creative education business. This is a varied role, giving you hands-on experience across social media, content creation, marketing, administration, and customer communication. You will also have the opportunity to build a portfolio of social media and creative work produced during your placement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Manage SLATE’s social channels
    • Create content ideas and social media campaigns
    • Film and photograph classes, educators, students and finished work
    • Keep up with current social media trends and research relevant hair, fashion and beauty trends
    • Assist with day-to-day admin 
    • Create marketing campaigns
    • Assist with the smooth running of classes and events
    • Help with the daily running of the academy

PERSON SPECIFICATION

We are looking for a creative, organised and proactive assistant who is interested in fashion, beauty, hair, social media and creative businesses, and who wants to gain real experience.

You don’t need to be a hairdresser. We are more interested in your attitude, creativity, organisation and willingness to learn. 

Eligibility Requirements 

To be eligible for this placement, applicants must: 

  • Be currently resident in the London Borough of Islington. 
  • Have the right to work in the UK. 
  • Be able to commit to completing the full 200-hour placement. 
  • Be available to attend in-person sessions at SLATE Hair Academy.

Essential Criteria 

  • Creative and visually minded 
  • Reliable, organised and proactive approach to work
  • Confident using Instagram and TikTok
  • Comfortable taking photos and videos
  • Interested in hair, fashion, beauty and culture 
  • Comfortable using basic computer software such as Google Workspace, and spreadsheets
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to completing the full placement programme

Desirable Criteria 

  • Previous experience in social media, content creation, administration, fashion, beauty, photography or a creative environment would be an advantage, but is not essential

HOURS & PAY

  • 1/2 days per week (to be decided on hiring)

  • 200 hours total

  • London Living Wage: £14.80
